My unexpected trip to Anfield and stay at Premier Inn

Can I firstly explain that football I can take or leave.  I listen to the drone of the television, they talk about "white noise".......this must be it, mmm, but then I glare at my Husband who is laughing, shouting, cursing at the Television and appears to be genuinely interested no matter of team, league or country.  WHAT!?!
However I have to let you know my Husband is CRAZY for all that is Liverpool Football Club.

About a year ago he got the chance of tickets to go to a game at Anfield. He asked if I fancied coming and we could stay the night and call on the way back home to the Lake District for a further night.  Well, now you`re talking my language - the bargaining tool! "OK, but do you think I could read my book during the game?".....I think NO was the answer, UGHH.

Unexpectedly I loved everything about it and have just been back for the third time. We have stayed at the Premier Inn in West Derby every time.  It is so convenient for the motorway and walking distance from Anfield Stadium. This time I booked the hotel in the car on the way down as we were offered the tickets just before lunchtime and were in the car less than an hour later ready for our journey.  I find premier Inns very good value for money and also you know what you are going to get before you arrive. The rooms are very well equipped and I have actually had this discussion with my Husband on many occasions that the designers really have thought of everything you would need in a room.  (Although once again I forgot to ask for a room with just a walk in shower.  Call me ANAL and I don`t know what it is, but I find baths in hotel rooms a no no. NO!.......Totally my own issues of course.)  The rooms are immaculate!  White bedding, comfy beds and lovely pillows.  Large screen television and tea and coffee making facilities.  There has always been very nice girls on reception who are willing to help with any questions asked, ample car parking and Beefeaters attached to the hotel for a lovely breakfast.  What more could you ask for? Exterior at Premier Inn Liverpool (West Derby) hotel

This visit we got a taxi to the stadium and stopped for a drink at a local pub where the atmosphere was palpable and full of red and white hats and scarfs. Around the stadium there was music, food and drink, the scale of everything is astounding.  Although there are women and children in the mass crowds, it is predominantly men and there is something heart rendering about the testosterone fueled passion of thousands of men together. It makes me think of times such as world wars or the minors strikes when passion was raw.   OK, I know now you think i`m Crazy, but that`s how it makes me feel!!!!

I`m sure I felt my heart stop and my throat close up when they sung You`ll Never Walk Alone, flags, banners and scarfs hoisted into the air.  The first time I was there I actually felt like some sort of intruder and dreaded someone asking me about the game, unveiling me as the fake I was. But now I have been three times and am really proud to say that I can identify three players and of course Klopp their fantastic Manager.  I wouldn`t go so far as Super fan but I may buy a hat or a scarf on my next visit.

We enjoyed the 30 minute walk back to the hotel, admiring all the houses decorated for Christmas.  A fantastic talking point and potential ideas for my own deccy display next Christmas.

Hope someone enjoys reading this.  Till the next time.
